There is a long history of trial lawyers, labor and workers’ rights. The labor movement in its infancy worked closely with trial lawyers, indeed, counted on trial lawyers’ efforts to help secure even the most modest of rights. As the years went by, some of the great trial lawyers of the 20th Century stood up for workers and labor leaders as industry leadership sought to intimidate and harass the fledgling unions into submission.

As the year comes to an end and I reflect back on the year that was, I’m proud to say that I am president of ITLA and oversee a membership full of outstanding trial lawyers who do what they do in order to help Illinois citizens. And that’s exactly what we did this past year.

Since I’ve been president of ITLA, things have been very busy. We are fighting the attacks from those seeking to “reform” our civil justice system. Corporate special interests have been at the forefront – and spending millions – attacking our constitutionally protected rights. As the election gets closer, those attacks are becoming more frequent.
